Human-led versus automated testing: where each wins

Automated tools and human testers do different jobs well.

Where tools win

  • Covering a large number of systems and pages quickly.
  • Finding known weaknesses and common mistakes in configuration.
  • Running again, cheaply and often, after every change.

Where people win

  • Understanding what your application is meant to do, and where that logic can be bent.
  • Chaining small issues into a serious one.
  • Telling a real finding from a false alarm, and explaining why it matters.
  • Spotting access-control problems, which tools struggle to see.

What we do

We use tools to cover the ground and people to look where tools cannot. A tool-only report tends to be long and noisy. A person-only test may miss the simple things. The combination gives you fewer, better findings.
